Diagnostics
Warning light on? Our computer diagnostics find the cause, and we explain what to do about it.
Today’s cars have dozens of control units and miles of cable. When something stops working, swapping parts blindly is not enough – the fault has to be found. That is our job: from a flat battery to treacherous broken wires that only show up now and then.
Electrical faults often go hand in hand with diagnostics – we read the fault codes right at the start. More about computer diagnostics
A needlessly replaced alternator or control unit is expensive. That is why we work systematically: we read the faults, measure voltages and resistances, check the wiring diagrams, and only once we know where the fault is do we suggest a repair.
It often turns out that no expensive part is needed – repairing a corroded connector or a broken wire is enough.
Frosts below –15 °C, nothing unusual in Orava, expose every weak battery. Before winter we test yours with a battery tester and tell you whether it will last or it is time for a new one.
If the car runs after starting and only goes flat while driving, or the battery light is on, it is more likely the alternator. If it won’t start after standing, it is more likely the battery or a hidden drain. A measurement taking a few minutes gives certainty.
Something in the car keeps drawing current after it is switched off – the radio, a module, the boot light. We can measure the drain and find the circuit causing it.
Yes. In such cars the new battery has to be registered with the control unit, otherwise it is charged incorrectly and fails sooner. We do this with the diagnostic tester.
