When to have your brakes and suspension checked

Do not put off a visit if you notice any of these signs:

  • Squealing or grinding when braking The pads are probably at their wear limit.
  • Steering wheel shudders when braking Typically warped brake discs.
  • The car pulls to one side when braking A seized caliper or unevenly worn brakes.
  • A soft or sinking brake pedal Air in the system or a fluid leak.
  • Brake or ABS warning light is on We read the fault code with diagnostics.
  • Knocking and banging over bumps Worn ball joints, bushes, anti-roll bar links or shock absorbers.
  • A hum that grows with speed Often a worn wheel bearing.
  • The car rocks and “floats” in corners Tired shock absorbers.

Do not drive with a soft pedal

If the brake pedal sinks, leave the car where it is – we will come and get it: Pick-up and delivery

Brakes and suspension for vans and motorhomes

Vans and motorhomes often run close to their maximum permitted weight, so their brakes and suspension wear faster than a car’s. On the Fiat Ducato, Sprinter, Transit, Crafter or Iveco Daily we replace brakes, shock absorbers and wheel bearings.

We recommend having a motorhome checked before the season – brakes that stood all winter like to seize.

How a brake repair works

  1. Inspection

We lift the car, check the brakes on both axles and measure the thickness of the discs and pads.

  2. Explanation

We tell you what is worn and what needs replacing.

  3. Replacement

We always replace parts per axle – both sides at once, so the car brakes evenly.

  4. Test

Finally we test the brakes and hand the car back to you.

Quality parts that last

We use parts from proven manufacturers. If you wish, we can also fit original parts.

Frequently asked questions about brakes and suspension

How often do brake pads need replacing?

It depends on your driving style and the car, usually every 30,000 to 60,000 km. In Orava, with all the braking downhill, it tends to be sooner. We check pad thickness at every service.

Do the discs need replacing along with the pads?

Not always. If a disc is not below its minimum thickness and is neither warped nor deeply scored, it can stay. We measure it and tell you where it stands.

How often should brake fluid be changed?

Most manufacturers specify a change every 2 years. Brake fluid absorbs moisture, which lowers its boiling point, and the brakes can fail on a long descent.

How much does a brake replacement cost?

The price depends on the car and the parts. We first check the brakes and explain what needs replacing.

Can I drive when my brakes squeal?

For a short while, yes, but have them checked as soon as possible. If the brakes grind metal on metal, the pads are worn through and are destroying the disc – the repair then gets more expensive.

Do you also repair the suspension of vans and motorhomes?

Yes, we do brakes, shock absorbers, ball joints and bearings on vans, motorhomes and commercial vehicles up to 7.5 t too.
