Diagnostics
Warning light on? Our computer diagnostics find the cause, and we explain what to do about it.
The automatic gearbox is one of the most expensive parts of a car. The good news is that most failures can be prevented by changing the oil regularly. We check your gearbox, read its faults and change the oil to the manufacturer’s specification.
In practice a “lifetime” fill means the lifetime of the warranty, not of the car. Over time the oil gets contaminated with clutch wear debris and loses its properties – the gearbox starts shifting harder, overheats and wears faster.
An oil change costs a fraction of a gearbox repair.
The sooner a problem is dealt with, the better the chance that a cheaper fix will do. We always start with car diagnostics
Inspection
We read the faults and check the condition and colour of the oil.
Oil change
We change the oil (and the filter, if the gearbox has one) to the manufacturer’s specification – the right type of oil, in the right quantity and at the right temperature.
Adaptations and test
We carry out the adaptations and a test drive.
If the manufacturer specifies an interval, stick to it. If it says “lifetime fill”, the oil still loses its properties over time – faster in vans and cars that tow. We will recommend a suitable interval for your car and the way you drive.
With a badly neglected gearbox there is a risk, so we assess it before the change. In most cases the change helps and the gearbox shifts better.
Yes, on vans and commercial vehicles up to 7.5 t with an automatic gearbox as well.
The price depends mainly on the quantity and type of oil your gearbox needs – we will tell you in advance based on the VIN.
